A quick guide to increasing social media engagement
It’s here, it’s there, it’s everywhere. Social media has undoubtedly woven itself into the very fabric of our lives and it has since become a platform we use to catch up on the latest news and updates, or to mindlessly keep scrolling down just to kill time. But the ubiquity of social media transcends itself, manifesting in the form of endless Facebook pages, Snapchat and Instagram accounts, stories etc.
So in this ocean of information, how do you get your followers to stay interested and tempt them away from the second most interesting thing out there?
First thing’s first.
Talk about your topic and not just your brand alone
Generate interest and hype surrounding what it is that you’re offering. While content is king, what is his significance if a king has no followers to acknowledge his presence. Simply put, the best way to create interest and make sure your content gets heard, is to create or join a group relevant to your niche.
Do that, and the chances of your content reaching your target audience will increase, which will also increase awareness and get your name known by prospective customers.
Q&A – Helping users resolve their queries on social media and showing that you’re active
The digital age moves rapidly at the pace of a rocket, so it’s not surprising that users want and need their queries to be resolved quickly. Sure it may be a bit of an ask; but get to their aid in time, and they’ll be thankful to you, even if they don’t say it.
Getting out there and hosting Q&A sessions could not only establish your position as a helpful brand, but it brings about the more crucial benefit of igniting discussions among users and prospective customers. Successfully execute this, and you will be seen as the go-to seller among your competitive rivals.
However, ensure that the solutions you’re providing truly resonate with the questions that your followers pose, otherwise a potentially promising attempt could end up backfiring on you as it could compromise your reputation. A little goes a long way in this case, and that’s why it’s best to do some research and create in depth responses; such as adding links that provide more information within your content, which properly answers your followers’ questions.
Like anybody, users love approaching a trustworthy brand to satisfy their needs and would go out of their way to ensure that their followers have a pleasant experience with them. Doing so would make you more attractive in the eyes of your followers as they would be more than likely to come back to you again for more.
Sharing is caring
It’s tough to make it on your own, and that’s why it’s good to get some help and help others out too. Even if the content may not originate from you, it demonstrates that you are committed to helping out your end followers– ensuring that they have what they need, followers would be attracted to and will be encouraged to follow you.
Not only that, it adds variety and keeps your followers interested because nothing is ever the same for more than certain periods at a time.
Sharing and reposting customer/follower posts
It’s a win-win situation here. Sharing your follower or customer posts brings attention to them; indicating that their posts are worthy of being featured on your channel feed, while also bringing part of the attention and exposure to your channel. And as a bonus, they’d be hard pressed not to share evidence of you mentioning their posts on their social channels.
All you have to do is to click on a share button of your positive posts, you can garner a good amount of engagement from your followers.
Seek an influencer to promote your content
By leveraging on an influencer’s expertise within your domain, you gain access to a whole new group of users. What’s more, if they, the followers, see a trusted source advocating a certain brand or service, then there’s a good chance that they would be onboard with what you’re promoting. More so, this would also leave a good impression with the influencer(s) that you worked with as you’ve provided them value from this collaboration.
Guests posts
This is an excellent way to achieve a wide reach across different social media channels and websites without having to expend too much effort and resources. Get the most out of this opportunity and create in-depth articles which highlights the unique selling proposition of your brand to publish on prominent channels and websites while acquiring useful backlinks, improving Search Engine Optimization (SEO) rankings along the way.
Engage your followers/customers
Everyone appreciates good customer support, as doing so will let them know that you are there to help should any problems arise, and are dedicated to providing them the best experience you have to offer. Doing this will let your followers/customers feel like an extension of the brand and that they are valued by the brand, and by personalising each direct response with each respective follower/customer, you display a ‘human’ and more authentic tone of voice; making the business feel more hospitable and less like an emotionless corporation.
Doing this brings your followers/customers closer to your brand and it builds towards generating customer loyalty and building a long term relationship with them.
It’s all about the visuals
What is a highly popular and visually oriented social media platform – Instagram. Use it to your advantage and as a tool to catch the eye of your followers. By leveraging on the use of visual cues to deliver your brand message, you immediately open up your brand to a huge variety of target demographics; from those who disregard plain text posts, to those who are either fully driven by visual cues or those who are a hybrid of both.
Combining certain tools such as a GIF, emoticon, video or bright and complementing colours greatly increases the accessibility of your social posts to all users and makes it more likely to be shared on their feeds.
It also serves the subtle purpose of expressing your brand image and cementing the perception of your brand in the eyes of users everywhere; potentially creating a memorable and instantly recognisable brand.
